Our trip to Rio Viejo, Honduras was amazing. We had the chance to go up to the very remote village of Las Minas. Two and a half hours up the mountain across many rivers and creeks. The people there were so hospitable and I truly cannot wait to be able to go back up there real soon. We slept in hammocks for two nights. I made friends there that I will be eager to be able to see next year.
We had the opportunity to meet Larry and Allison Smoak while we were there and get to know about their life work of teaching people better and smarter ways to farm and conserve existing resources. The name of their organization is The 600. Check out their website and see more of the work that they are doing in the Cangrejal River Cove region in the jungle mountains above La Ceiba.
We also worked with Rani, Michael, and Rebecca on getting them some images to use in their fund raising back here in the states. Rani and Michael are nurses that work with Dr. Martin and handle everything around the clinic.
Rebecca is the world famous pizza maker of Honduras, resident photographer, Michael’s wife, and handles the front desk and phones
at the clinic.
It was wonderful to be back there with Martin, Wendy, Sam, and Rachel and everyone at Healing Hands Global. It truly feels like a second home to Steph and I.
We are already making plans for the work we will be doing down there next year. I will be going into the prisons in Tegucigalpa, visiting orphanages, I’m sure another trip up to Las Minas, and generally going all over the country of Honduras. I’m ready for next summer to get here!
It was so very cool that Gabby Rei was able to come down with Steph for the week of Thanksgiving. Gabby loved the play room that Rachel took a couple of days to set up for them to play in while we were there. Gabs loved her some Rachee.
I arrived there a week earlier than my family and then we all came home on the Saturday after Thanksgiving. Even had the good fortune to have to make the trip to San Pedro Sula a day early to ensure us being able to catch our flight out on time on that Saturday.
So, I was able to watch the Alabama vs. Auburn game so that was a definite plus. I thought I was going to miss it because of travel times.
Also, I’m so proud to say that my wife has been published in a international magazine, The Evangel. Her article is on page 22 & 23. She wrote about HHG and our trip this summer down there. There are some images on there also from a certain someone.
Below are some of the images from this latest trip.

This is Pedro Argueta, approximately 93 years old in the jungle mountains of Las Minas, Honduras.
Hard life, many battles, many victories; he’s still hanging in there. He has out-lived all of his contemporaries.
He still works when he can, he has to- otherwise he won’t eat. Loves to laugh.
He laughed it up when Daryl showed him this and other images.
That was fun, to watch him hoot and holler. words by Dr. Martin Williams.

This is the grandmother who takes care of ten orphans.
My heart is touched everytime I see this image. Her weariness is so evident.

Some of her children in the doorway into their home that Larry and Allison’s organization built for them.
They were all living in a 10 x 10 shack. One adult and ten children.

One of those precious children. Such a beautiful smile.

34“A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another.
35By this all men will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.”
This is etched into the concrete counter in front of the sink in the kitchen at Camp Adullam which is where The 600 is based.

Seeds harvested by Larry.

Dr. Martin greeting one of his little patients in Las Minas. That is a true showing of our Father’s love for His children.

One of the clinics brand new patients. That’s Rebecca touching her head.

This young lady earned two images on here. Couldn’t not show this image. Just beautiful.

Infrared image of the road up to Las Minas.

Man on Horse.
One of the few bridges on the road to Las Minas.

Boy by adobe house. Las Minas.

The outdoor kitchen where our food was prepared when we were in Las Minas.
Had some good yard bird off that stove.

The beautiful mountain region of Las Minas.

Four children. They had a blast having their picture taken.

THE DOC doing his thing!

I LOVE this image. Roadside kitchen where we got breakfast before the trip up the mountain to Las Minas.
I love the shaft of light coming in and everything about it.

The women got a great laugh out of this. Antonio helping out with the grinding of the corn.
The laughter was because that is women’s work and I got a picture of him doing it.
I took about a 10 minute turn at it and HAD to go back to taking pictures.

One of the many children that love Dr. Martin at the Healing Hands clinic in Rio Viejo.

Old Man.

Doc doing his work.

A color image of this young woman. I loved the bandana.

My baby girl, Gabby, at the door to the nursery at Larry and Allison’s camp.

Steph and Gabby inside the nursery.

Steph with some children at day camp.

Gabby checking out “Her Mountain” in the rainforest. Martin gave her a mountain while she was there.

Steph doing what she has such a gift for…teaching children.
Below: Got to love that smile!
